QUESTION:

We are getting an 8 week old German Shepherd and I'm considering which food would be better - Orijen Large Breed or Innova Large Breed. I've read that its important to watch calcium and phos levels. Which would you recommend?

ANSWER:

Hi Sherri,

Both the Innova Large Breed Puppy and the Orijen Large Breed Puppy are excellent foods. They both have Chicken and Turkey as their protein source.

The Innova has 24% Protein and 12% Fat with .7% Phosphorus and.9% Calcium The Orijen has 40% Protein and 16% Fat with 1.1% Phosphorus and 1.5% Calcium

Both of these foods have an appropriate calcium to phosphorus level.

You would be feeding your dog among the best foods out there with either of these choices. However I would like to let you know that the makers of Orijen are currently having a difficult time keeping up with demand and are currently having out of stock issues. They anticipate this issue being resolved in the near future, but currently we are out of stock on the Large Breed Puppy.
