| QUESTION:
Hi Chuck! I have a 6.5-month-old medium-sized labradoodle who was recently neutered and I'm seeking an adult food to transition him to in 6-8 weeks. Currently, he eats Nutro Ultra for large breed puppies. I'm seeking something great for his joints to avoid hip dysplasia, as well as provide a lot of energy, as he'll be trail running with me when the snow melts. He has no allergies. Which foods do you recommend? I appreciate your help! |
| ANSWER:
Hi Jenny, Thank you for contacting me regarding labradoodle and his dietary needs. I would suggest a higher calorie, higher protein food. This should give him the energy that he will need to run with you this spring and summer. You will want to make sure you watch his weight with this higher calorie food. Nutrisource (32% protein) and Nutro Natural Choice High Energy (30% protein) both have a performance food that would be good during the period he is exercising and then you could go to the regular large breed adult food during the "off" season. Canidae is one of the higher calorie foods we sell at 468 Kcals per cup. This food has 24% protein. You may also benefit from a grain fee diet which we have many to choose from. Their protein levels are typically higher. If you are concerned about his hips and joints I would suggest adding a daily glucosamine supplement. They have liquid and pill form for your convenience. The best advice I could give is to come into one of our stores and ask a member of our team for assistance. We can walk you through the foods and compare ingredient labels to find the best solution for your pup! "The Chuck" |
