| QUESTION:
I am a runner and I am planning on rescuing a dog this spring. Do you recommend any certain breed for me to focus on in my search that would make an excellent running partner. I prefer a larger dog, but I know that a lot of the "large" breeds (danes, rotties, etc.) have some hip dysplasia issues. I was thinking maybe a vizsla mix. |
| ANSWER:
Hi Beth, Thank you for the excellent question. Hip dysplasia in many breeds is a real concern. If you are planning on adopting a rescue dog and the age is close to maturity a good veterinarian can determine if the dog has good hips. Some of the breeds to consider are Vizsla (a good choice), also German Short Haired Pointers, Labs from hunting blood lines and also Field Goldens. These would be good running companions.
