| QUESTION:
My dogs have been on Canidae for many years (lamb and rice). I started them on the senior version and they got very loose stools. I was told to mix Science Diet with it - which I did, and it fixed the problem. I would like to get to a point of not having to mix foods. Any suggestions ? |
| ANSWER:
Hi Bonnie, Since the dog has been on the Lamb and Rice for many years, when switching foods make it a slow transition. Normally, it can be done within a week. The first day would mostly his old diet and a little of his new, the next day up the new diet a bit more and by the seventh day you should be able to give him just the new food. If done too quickly, it will causes loose stools. The same would be followed to get to the point of not having to mix the Science Diet with the Canidae. Slowly quit adding the Science Diet to the Canidae over the course of the week. Chuck and Don's offers a product called Eagle Pack Holistic Transition. It aids in transitioning your dog to a new diet by using a friendly bacteria to help with the switch.
