QUESTION:

I have a 7 month old Goldendoodle, I am looking for a new food for her. Right now I have her on Nutro and she isn't eatting very well and since I switched her urine is burning the grass. What kind of dog food do you recommend?

ANSWER:

Dear Tracy,

Being that your dog is only 7 months old there are many different options to choose from. I would recommend keeping with a simple diet since that is what the dog is used to eating with the Nutro puppy diet. Some of the more
popular diets that we sell would be the Nutrisource Large Breed Puppy food, Canidae, California Natural and Wellness. With most puppy foods you will see the same main protein source, chicken, but sometimes the little variances in the diet can lead to more of a peak in the dogs interest in the food.

As far as the dog burning the grass goes, some dog foods may have an impact on the acidity of the dog's urine, so switching diets can help. The biggest help with burning the grass is making sure the dog stays hydrated. Puppies sometimes forget that they need to drink water because there is so much outside stimulation. Having a water dish by the door they enter or exit the house, or a water dish outside that is always full can encourage them to drink more. Also supplementing a little canned food can help keep the dog hydrated.

Thank you.
